Crisis Management

Sometimes things can go from bad to worse.  Sometimes the worst case scenario happens. In times of crisis, it's not just a matter of getting through it - how you handle the situation may have repercussions with long lasting effects.  Whilst the crisis could focus on any event, such as a letter bomb, a kidnapping abroad, sensitive information leakage, product contamination or theft of intellectual property, the potential for the main issues and the collateral concerns to catch you unaware is immense.

CrisisAs a key decision-maker or 'controlling mind' of the company, you must decide with your management team how the company will react to any such emergency. And in order to minimise the event's long-term impact, you and your team must react quickly and make the right decisions at a time when the organisation is at its most vulnerable, and therefore most liable to make mistakes. Additionally, the actions you take under extreme stress can face scrutiny later in a court of law if it is deemed that you, as an individual, along with members of your management team at the time, failed in your duty of care by failing to perform effectively.

Crises and disasters are low probability events but they place large demands on resources and have to compete against front line services. The key to effective Crisis Management is in the preparation and rehearsal of a corporate Contingency Plan, based on the worst-case scenario that empowers a skilled and practiced Crisis Management Team whose job it is to effectively minimise the effect a significant crisis would have on the organisation as a whole.

In the spotlight of a 24 hour international media, your organisation's reputation is on the line and with such high stakes recovery can't be left to chance. An effective crisis media plan will promote the interests of your business, provide all target audiences with information and instill confidence in  your stakeholders. Your communication strategy will be built around your key messages, shaping perceptions and creating positive, dynamic relationships with media organisations.  Whether print, TV, radio or internet based, media oulets are under their own pressures to get the story out - and fast.  The media won't go away until they have their story, so either you provide the information they need or they'll find it themselves. We can help you to prepare your crisis media plan so that your organisation can cope with media pressures during a crisis, remain the information source of choice and retain your influence on the headlines.
